Dr. Rashmee Singh

Biography

Rashmee Singh is an Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo, specializing in Sociology and Legal Studies. She obtained her PhD in Criminology and Socio-Legal Studies from the University of Toronto and has a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Sociology from the same institutions. Her research focuses on violence against women, feminist legal theory, and the intersections of race and gender in socio-legal contexts. Singh has led various significant research projects, including a SSHRC Insight grant-funded comparative study on the governance of sex work in the United States and Canada. She also explores the impacts of COVID-19 on specialized domestic violence courts and community responses in Ontario. Her extensive publication record includes articles in prestigious journals addressing topics such as femicide, domestic violence, and the role of the voluntary sector in criminal justice. Rashmee is involved in collaborative projects that aim to evaluate community initiatives in the context of domestic violence and address issues related to sexual violence on university campuses. Throughout her career, she has received multiple research grants, affirming her expertise and contributions to the field of criminology and socio-legal studies.
