Rasmus Öberg is a PhD student in the Industrial Doctoral School with a focus on biophysics and biophotonics at Umeå University. He holds an MSc in Engineering Physics, which he earned in 2020, and he has experience studying advanced optics and laser physics at the City University of Hong Kong during an exchange year in 2018. His PhD research involves optical methods to explore the physical and chemical properties of biological organisms. Specifically, Rasmus employs spectroscopic techniques such as Raman, absorbance, and fluorescence spectroscopy, as well as optical tweezers, to investigate individual microorganisms, including bacterial spores linked to diseases and food poisoning. In addition to his research, he teaches an optics and wave physics course and serves as the assistant programme director for the Engineering Physics programme.
