Rasmus Winther Schmøkel is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Digital Democracy Centre (DDC) within the Department of Political Science and Public Management at the University of Southern Denmark. His research focuses on how artificial intelligence algorithms shape citizens' exposure to and consumption of political information online. Rasmus aims to develop and test public service algorithms and AI models designed to promote informational equality and strengthen democratic opportunity structures in digital media environments. He contributes to the development of the Experimental Platform (ESMP), a digital infrastructure enabling controlled and realistic studies of feed design, algorithmic curation, and user behavior. His work combines computational modeling and analysis of behavioral data with democratic theory to better understand and improve the informational foundations of the digital public sphere. Rasmus’s current projects include investigating AI recommender systems that support information equality in democratic news consumption, and developing research infrastructure to study effects in realistic controlled conditions. His doctoral research concentrated on news consumption, feedback dynamics, user behavior, and algorithmic content supply.
