Dr. Raul Guzman

Biography

Dr. Raul Guzman is the Donald Guthrie Professor of Vascular Surgery and the Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs at Yale School of Medicine. He has been the Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at Yale New Haven Hospital since 2019. Before joining Yale, he had a notable career at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School. Earlier, he served as Chief of Vascular Surgery at the Nashville VA Hospital after completing his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University and residency in general surgery. He further trained in vascular surgery at Stanford University Hospital. Dr. Guzman's clinical interests include managing patients with diabetic vascular disease and peripheral artery disease, with a focus on preventing amputations. His research primarily examines the role of arterial calcification in lower extremity ischemia. Dr. Guzman is actively involved in various peer review groups, including serving as a member of the NIH's Bioengineering, Technology, and Surgical Sciences Study Section from 2019 to 2025.
