Dr. Raúl Zepeda Gil

Biography

Raúl Zepeda Gil is a Mexican interdisciplinary sociologist and political scientist specializing in the nexus of socioeconomic inequalities and conflicts. Currently serving as a Teaching Fellow in the War Studies Department at King's College London, his research interests focus on youth recruitment by criminal organizations, labor market inequalities, and the dynamics of the Latin American drug wars. Zepeda Gil employs a wide range of analytical lenses including international political economy, critical policy analysis, and stratification sociology. His research also delves into topics such as climate change politics, education policy for teachers, civil-military relations, and the impact of austerity on criminal violence and international politics. He is engaged in crafting a research agenda surrounding political theory and existential risk due to the climate change crisis. Zepeda Gil has authored several publications, demonstrating a keen interest in critical studies around violence, social mobility, and political identities. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the School of Security Studies at King's College London, along with master's and bachelor's degrees in political science from El Colegio de México and the National Autonomous University of Mexico, respectively.
