Biography

Ravi Kanbur researches and teaches development economics, public economics, and economic theory. He is known for his role in policy analysis and engagement in international development. He served as senior staff to the World Bank as chief economist for Africa and has published in leading economics journals, including the Journal of Political Economy, American Economic Review, Economic Studies, Journal of Economic Theory, and Economic Journal. Kanbur is the president of the Human Development and Capabilities Association, chair of the Board of the United Nations University-World Institute for Development Economics Research, and co-chair of the Scientific Council of the International Panel on Social Progress. He is a member of the OECD High Level Expert Group on Measurement of Economic Performance. Additionally, he has held positions such as past president of the Society for the Study of Economic Inequality and past member of the High Level Advisory Council for Climate Justice Dialogue.
