Biography

Ravinder Reddy is a Professor in the Department of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He completed his B.Sc. in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry from Osmania University in 1979, followed by an M.Sc. in Chemistry from Kakatiya University in 1982, and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1989. His research focuses on developing novel multinuclear magnetic resonance imaging spectroscopic techniques for early diagnosis and quantification of physiological functional aberrations in pathologies such as arthritis, stroke, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease. He employs advanced pulse sequence development approaches that leverage quadrupolar spin-dynamics and polarization transfer to study molecular dynamics in biological tissues. Specifically, his work includes T1ρ Sodium MRI techniques designed to map proteoglycan molecules in cartilage, acting as biomarkers for early arthritis. Additionally, his research involves the development of chemical exchange saturation transfer-based MRI methods to measure low concentration metabolites in the brain, addressing central nervous system disorders. Reddy's ongoing research aims to uncover insights into cerebral blood flow and oxidative metabolism, as well as high-energy phosphate metabolism in the myocardium related to heart disease.
