Ravindra Desai is an Associate Professor at the University of Warwick and holds honorary positions at Imperial College London and the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge. His research focuses on the utilization and development of a range of plasma simulation codes to pursue blue skies research in plasma physics and its implications for solar system phenomena, particularly those that intersect with technology-dependent societal risks, collectively known as Space Weather. In 2023, he was awarded the Royal Astronomical Society's Winton Award for his outstanding contributions to the field of Space Plasma physics as well as the Higher Education Award for his exceptional supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Ravindra participates in the outreach program Sun-Space-Art and is actively involved in a number of current and upcoming space missions, including the ESA/CAS SMILE mission aiming to image the global magnetosphere using X-rays, the ESA/NASA Solar Orbiter mission, and the NASA/ESA/JAXA/CSA Gateway Space Station Artemis program. He is leading efforts at Warwick to develop quantum technologies and novel sensors for space applications and is at the forefront of the ROARS (Revealing Orbital Atmospheric Responses to Solar activity) mission concept.
