Ray Chen is a Professor and holds the Joan Curry/Cullen Trust Endowed Chair in the Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He has led significant research in optical interconnect technologies and nanophotonics since joining the faculty in 1992. His academic contributions include over 970 publications, 100 invited papers, and 82 patents. Chen was previously a research scientist and director at the Physical Optics Corporation and has been involved in various startups, including Radiant Research, Inc. and Omega Optics Inc. His research is focused on nano-photonic devices, thin film guided-wave optical interconnections, true time delay wide-band phased array antennas, and 3D printed micro-electronics photonics. Chen has supervised 41 postdocs and graduated 59 PhD students and is a Fellow of IEEE, OSA, and SPIE. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to research, teaching, and community service, including the UC Regent’s Dissertation Fellowship in 1987, the UT Engineering Foundation Faculty Award in 1999, and the NASA Certified Technical Achievement Award in 2013.
