Biography

Ray Leonard's research focuses on the intersections of Black and Indigenous literatures in Early America. His work has appeared in the Cambridge Journal, Postcolonial Inquiry, and James Joyce Quarterly. His current project, 'Literature of Black and Indigenous Encounters in Early America', argues that Black and Indigenous authors appropriated Euro-colonial genres during the New World contact to construct a distinct literary tradition that reimagines New World history through the lens of Black and Indigenous encounters.
