Biography

Ray Yep is a political scientist with extensive experience in local governance and political economy reform in China. Having worked for 25 years at the Department of Public and International Affairs of the City University of Hong Kong, he served as the Associate Head from 2012 to 2019. His early career focused on local finance, land administration, and the central-local relationship in state-society interactions in China. His recent research examines late colonial governance in Hong Kong, including a book project on the governorship of Murray MacLehose (1971-1982) and its implications for local autonomy. He has published over 200 articles on Hong Kong politics. Currently, he is engaged in various supervisory roles for PhD candidates focusing on Hong Kong history and politics. He is also a co-founder of civil society organizations and actively participates in public intellectual discourse around governance issues in Hong Kong.
