Biography

Ray Hawkins, Ph.D., ABPP (Clinical Psychology), received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1975, completing a one-year pre-doctoral internship at the Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute. From 1975 to 1982, he served as an assistant professor of clinical psychology at the University of Texas at Austin, and in 1979 he co-founded the Austin Stress Clinic, a private clinic specializing in biofeedback and clinical health psychology. In 1982, he joined the Austin Regional Clinic as a staff psychologist, where he provided practicum supervision for UT clinical psychology students and conducted clinical research on addictive behaviors, Jungian personality types, chaos theory, behavioral health issues, eating disorders, and chronic pain. Between 1998 and 2001, he was the Director of the UT Clinical Psychology Training Clinic (UTCPTC). He was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor in the UT Psychology Department in 2011, where he continues to conduct research, provide advanced clinical supervision, and teach courses on professional issues in psychology. He also serves as an adjunct professor in the Master of Counseling Program at the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest and has taught in the core faculty of the APA-approved doctoral program in clinical psychology at Fielding Graduate University. Currently, he is involved in clinical research focusing on individual differences in personality and psychotherapy outcomes, having published numerous articles and co-edited books on addictive behaviors and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
