Biography

Rebecca Bacon, DVM PhD DACVP earned her DVM from North Carolina State University and completed her veterinary anatomic pathology residency training at Texas A&M University, achieving diplomate (DACVP) status in 2022. She earned her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University in 2024. Her dissertation research investigated chronic enterocolitis in rhesus macaques as a potential model for post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome in humans, specifically examining the role of Campylobacter species in the development of these syndromes. Her research was supported by the NIH T32 Ruth L Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) and the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Institutional Training Grant. Currently, Bacon holds a dual appointment as a veterinary pathologist in the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources and as an assistant professor in the Department of Pathology at Duke University. She provides diagnostic pathology services to laboratory animal colonies and supports individual animal colony health while also assisting Duke investigators in the development and characterization of animal models for human disease.
