Professor Dr. Rebecca Barthelmie

Biography

Professor Barthelmie joined Cornell University in 2014 and has since been a Croll Faculty Fellow. She has authored 125 journal papers and 400 conference papers and reports, and serves as the co-chief editor for the journal Wind Energy. In recognition of her remarkable contributions to wind energy research, she received the scientific award from the European Wind Energy Academy in 2009. Professor Barthelmie currently leads several research projects funded by the Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation. Her research primarily focuses on wind energy resources, specifically analyzing wind turbine wakes downwind from large wind farms in both onshore and offshore environments. Additionally, she led the development of offshore wind farms in Denmark and managed an offshore wind energy network. Her work involves detailed measurements and the application of remote sensing technologies, such as lidar, alongside modeling and data analysis of extensive datasets from large wind farms.
