Biography

Rebecca Hennessy is an award-winning trumpeter, vocalist, composer, and bandleader whose music bridges jazz, roots, and singer-songwriter genres. She is known for her upcoming studio vocal album, 'Falling Rain', which is a lush, heartfelt journey inspired by the poetry of acclaimed author Thomas King. The project began in 2017 when Rebecca commissioned 'Silence Guelph' to compose music using King's poetry. This inspiring experience led to the return of the book '77 Fragments of Familiar Ruin', which features seven poems set to music, along with Rebecca's own original lyric-based songs. 'Falling Rain' includes collaborations with world-renowned musicians Kevin Breit, Tania Gill, Michael Herring, and Dave Clark, blending King's evocative words with Hennessy's distinctive voice and trumpet. Her recent works follow the acclaimed albums 'Joy Find' (2023), 'Things' (2020), and 'Makeshift Island Live Jazz Room' (2025). Rebecca's long-standing musical partnership with guitarist Kevin Breit showcases her ability to fuse heartfelt songwriting with adventurous musicianship. She has toured extensively across Canada, the U.S., Europe, Mexico, Panama, and Sri Lanka, performed and recorded with artists such as Adele, Ron Sexsmith, and Feist, and was a leading figure in Toronto's Massey Hall as the bandleader of the Women’s Blues Revue from 2013 to 2022.
