Dr. Rebecca Hewer

Biography

Rebecca Hewer is a Senior Lecturer and Chancellor's Fellow at the University of Edinburgh within the School of Social and Political Science. Her research interests focus on socio-legal regulation, particularly the regulation of women's bodies, and how governance shapes reproductive politics. Notably, she has explored the implications of the 'two-child limit' in UK fiscal policy, specifically addressing non-consensual conception circumstances, such as rape. Hewer's work also incorporates feminist discourse analysis and critical policy studies, examining the production of feminist social policy through innovative methodological approaches. She is involved with the GENDER.ED core team and leads the Gender and Sexuality Studies Reading Group, facilitating interdisciplinary discussions among scholars in the field. Hewer holds a PhD in Social Policy from the University of Edinburgh and is a qualified barrister in England and Wales.
