Biography

Rebecca Jennings is a Professor of Modern Gender History at University College London (UCL). She completed her PhD at the University of Manchester in 2003 and has taught for several years, taking a research fellowship at Macquarie University in Sydney before joining UCL's History department in 2016. Her research focuses on twentieth-century British and Australian lesbian history, exploring themes of selfhood, subjectivity, personal testimonies, oral history, intimacy, kinship, and family life. Jennings is particularly interested in cultural representations of lesbianism and sexual subcultures. She is currently working on a project about the entanglement of lesbian and trans subjectivities in post-war Britain. In addition to her role in research, she serves as the Admissions Tutor for History and Vice Dean of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion within UCL's Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences. Some of her major publications include "Lesbian Intimacies: Family Life, Desire, Domesticity and Kinship in Britain and Australia, 1945-2000" and "Unnamed Desires: Sydney Lesbian History." She also teaches several courses focused on modern gender and sexuality in Britain and supervises doctoral students in related fields.
