Biography

Rebecca Levitan is a Lecturer in Greek Art at King's College London, where she focuses on the study of Ancient Mediterranean Art History. She received her PhD from the University of California, Berkeley in 2023. Prior to her appointment at King’s, she held fellowships at prestigious institutions including the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, American Academy in Rome, and the British School at Rome. These fellowships supported her archaeological fieldwork in Greece and Italy, as well as further research in Turkey and Jordan. Currently, Rebecca is working on a monograph that centers on the Hellenistic sculptural type known as the 'Pasquino Group,' which includes Roman marble copies and their long afterlives. She co-directs 'The Naxos Quarry Project' in collaboration with the Cycladic Ephorate of Antiquities, a multidisciplinary archaeological initiative that explores the role of marble from the Cycladic island of Naxos in the development of ancient Greek art and architecture. Her research interests include Ancient Mediterranean sculpture and its afterlives, the reception of classical art and architecture in Europe and the United States, materiality, production, museum practice, collection history, and the application of digital tools for the study of ancient art and archaeology.
