Biography

Rebecca Nagel is an Associate Professor in the Department of History, Classics, and Religion at the University of Alberta. She holds a PhD from Harvard University and a BA from the University of Toronto. Her academic focus encompasses Latin language literature and the classical tradition, as well as English literature. Nagel serves as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs in the Faculty of Arts, a role she has held since July 2021 after previously serving in multiple academic capacities within the Faculty. Her significant research includes exploring the relationships between writers and literary sources, particularly among Roman authors such as Horace and Statius. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has held editorial positions, notably as Associate Editor for Latin Poetry at Phoenix. Her teaching and research output includes significant works on Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West, and she has organized conferences on classical themes.
