Biography

Becca Neel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto. She obtained her Ph.D. in Psychology from Arizona State University and her B.A. in English from Carleton College. Before her current position, she served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa's Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. Dr. Neel’s research aims to understand how beliefs—such as stereotypes regarding power and danger—and motivations impact social values and behaviors, including the dynamics of social invisibility. Her current work examines the experiences of social groups that are ignored or treated with indifference, as well as how these groups perceive themselves in relation to being seen as a threat. In recognition of her contributions to the field, she has been named a Sage Young Scholar by the Personality and Social Psychology Association and is acknowledged as a Rising Star by the Association for Psychological Science.
