Biography

Rebecca B. Neumann leads the hydro-biogeochemistry research group in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington, where she joined in 2011. Before her appointment at UW, she was a postdoctoral fellow at NOAA Climate Global Change and Harvard University, focusing on how plant roots and soil conditions modulate the movement of water across landscapes. Rebecca earned her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where her research addressed arsenic-contaminated groundwater, a significant health issue in Bangladesh. She holds a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a B.A. in Art History from Rice University. Her research interests span hydrology, biogeochemistry, and ecological interactions, employing a multifaceted approach to inform environmental health and management policies related to food and water quality amidst global climate change. In addition to her research, she is actively involved in mentoring graduate students and teaching various courses related to environmental engineering.
