Biography

Rebecca Rich is a Clinical Professor of Law at Duke University School of Law and serves as the Assistant Director of the Legal Writing program. She teaches courses including Legal Analysis, Research, Writing, and specializes in Scholarly Writing Workshop and Contract Drafting for upper-level students. Rich has contributed to Duke Law's Summer Institute in Law & Policy and the PreLaw Fellowship Program. Her teaching excellence has been recognized with the law school’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 2020 and the Duke Law Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching & Learning in 2023. Active in the national legal writing community, she is a participant in the Legal Writing Institute and the Association of Legal Writing Directors. Before her academic career, she practiced civil litigation at the Raleigh law firm Ellis & Winters LLP and served as a law clerk for the Honorable Patricia Timmons-Goodson on the North Carolina Supreme Court. She received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) with honors from Duke University School of Law, where she was the Articles Editor for the Duke Law Journal, and holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Goshen College.
