Biography

Rebecca Schneider's program focuses on integrated, watershed-based, sustainable water resource management in the face of climate change. Her research, extension, and teaching all revolve around the facets of this topic. She is currently investigating restoration of organic matter in wetland and terrestrial soils to improve hydrologic and biogeochemical functions. Over the past years, Rebecca has worked with students and collaborators to develop a successful research-extension program addressing both theoretical and applied sides of plant-water interactions. Her research findings have been translated into extension programs aimed at improving management of roadside drainage networks to mitigate flooding and water pollution, enhancing watershed management buffers in response to climate change, and promoting sustainable approaches to managing aquatic weeds while improving streamside protection. Additionally, she has developed a successful undergraduate course that teaches a broader set of ecological issues associated with water resource management.
