Dr. Rebecca Seltzer

Biography

Rebecca R. Seltzer is an Associate Professor in the Division of General Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, with joint faculty appointments at the Berman Institute of Bioethics and the Bloomberg School of Public Health. She graduated with a BA from the University of Virginia and earned her MD from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Seltzer completed her residency training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and pursued fellowship training in Academic General Pediatrics and Bioethics at Johns Hopkins. She is a co-director of the Health Equity Advocacy track in the Johns Hopkins pediatric residency program, where she teaches both pediatric residents and medical students. Her research focuses on improving the care and well-being of children with medical complexities and disabilities, particularly those at risk of entering the child welfare system. Dr. Seltzer has been instrumental in developing interventions and policies to strengthen support for families, advocating for children in foster care. She is actively involved in various leadership roles, including positions within the American Academy of Pediatrics, and has received significant funding for her work in health services, ethics, and policy. Her commitment to translating research into impactful advocacy is evident in her authorship of policy statements and her extensive publication record.
