Biography

Rebecca Taylor is an Associate Professor in the Department of Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has received the Campus Distinguished Promotion Award in 2025, recognizing her contributions to the field of education. Her research employs philosophically-grounded mixed methods to investigate ethical questions within educational policy and practice. Taylor has co-edited the volume 'Ethics in Higher Education: Promoting Equity and Inclusion through Case-Based Inquiry', published by Harvard Education Press in 2021. Her advanced work focuses on epistemic injustice within the context of activism in higher education, resulting in publications in esteemed journals such as AERA Open, Teachers College Record, and the Journal of Philosophy of Education. She has also been recognized with the National Academy of Education/Spencer Research Development Award in 2020. Taylor previously served as Chair of the Philosophical Studies in Education SIG of the American Educational Research Association and currently serves as an Editor for the Educational Theory journal, in addition to directing the Philosophy Education program at Illinois.
