Biography

Professor Oosterbeek is an Associate Professor of Engineering Science and a member of the Solid Mechanics Materials Engineering Group. His research focuses on developing new materials for medical implants by utilizing innovative approaches, including novel mechanical metamaterials and bioresorbable composites. Reece obtained his BE(Hons) degrees in Chemical and Materials Engineering from the University of Auckland and completed his PhD in Materials Science and Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge in 2020, funded by the Woolf Fisher Scholarship. His doctoral work involved bioresorbable polymer-glass composites for medical implants. Following this, Reece conducted post-doctoral research at Imperial College London, working with additively manufactured metal lattice materials for orthopedic implants within the Biomechanics Group. In 2022, he joined the department as a Departmental Lecturer and was appointed to his current role in 2023, focusing on developing advanced materials for medical applications.
