Regina Mangieri is an Assistant Professor at the College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Austin, specializing in Pharmacology and Toxicology. She obtained her B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Mathematics from Monmouth College in 2002 and went on to earn her Ph.D. in Pharmacology in 2008 from the University of California, Irvine. Following her doctorate, Mangieri completed her postdoctoral training at the University of Texas at Austin from 2008 to 2013, where she was awarded the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award postdoctoral fellowship by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). She heads the Target Validation Electrophysiology Core within the NIAAA-sponsored Integrative Neuroscience Initiative Alcoholism-Neuroimmune Consortium. Her research focuses on the interactions between ethanol exposure and neuroimmune signaling pathways that regulate cellular physiology and synaptic transmission in the brain, and she employs behavioral pharmacology alongside electrophysiological techniques to explore these interactions. Regina currently combines her research with her role at the Waggoner Center for Alcohol Addiction Research, helping to further understand biological mechanisms affecting alcohol consumption.
