Regula Hänggli is a professor of political communication at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). Her research focuses on digital democracy, public debates, opinion formation, and the origin of dialogue in news media. Before joining Fribourg, she was a professor at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR). She has also been a member of a temporary federal expert group on the digital transformation of our society. Hänggli holds a doctorate from the University of Zurich and a master's degree in political science (major) and economics (minor) from the University of Bern. Her research addresses political communication from a comparative perspective, institutional reforms, and digital democracy. In the fall semester of 2023, Hänggli participated in the TdLab (ETH Zurich), and in the fall semester of 2018, she was a visiting researcher for the COSS (Computational Social Science) initiative at ETH Zurich. Prior to her position at Fribourg, she worked as an assistant professor at ASCoR. In 2008/2009, Hänggli was a visiting researcher at Northwestern University, Evanston/USA, with Professor James Druckman. In 2004, she studied for one semester at the University of Bergen (Norway).
