Regula Hänggli is a professor of political communication at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). Her work focuses on digital democracy, public debates, opinion formation, and the origin of dialogue in news media. Prior to her appointment in Fribourg, she was a professor at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR) and a member of a federal temporary expert group on the digital transformation of our society. Hänggli holds a doctorate from the University of Zurich and a master's degree in Political Science (main field) and Economics (secondary field) from the University of Bern. Her research interests include political communication from a comparative perspective, institutional reforms, and digital democracy. In the fall semester of 2023, Hänggli participated in TdLab at ETH Zurich, and in the fall semester of 2018, she was a visiting researcher at the COSS initiative (Computational Social Science) at ETH Zurich. Before joining Fribourg, she was an assistant professor at ASCoR. In 2008/2009, Hänggli was a visiting researcher at Northwestern University in Evanston, USA, with Professor James Druckman. In 2004, she studied for one semester at the University of Bergen (Norway).
