Biography

Rehan Rafay Jamil is a Fellow at the London School of Economics specializing in Public Policy Administration. His research interests focus on the causes and consequences of programmatic social policies and their effects on marginalized citizens, particularly in weak democratic institutions and contexts with uneven state capacity and high patronage levels. Jamil's current book project investigates the political origins and consequences of social policy expansion in new democracies of the Global South, aiming to understand the impacts of major cash transfer programs designed for low-income women, most notably the Benazir Income Support Programme in Pakistan. Additionally, he has explored the dynamics of social policy expansion within Latin America's new democracies, with findings published in the journal Comparative Politics.
