Biography

Reinhold Schwab was born on December 24, 1942, in Würzburg. He initially studied Protestant theology at the Augustana Hochschule Neuendettelsau and the University of Hamburg for six semesters before advancing to psychology, philosophy, and pedagogy. Since 1970, Schwab has been affiliated with the University of Hamburg's Department of Psychology, where he took on various roles including managing director of the then Psychotherapeutic Counseling Center, later focusing on teaching and research in client-centered psychotherapy. He received his doctorate in 1973 and habilitated in clinical psychology in 1995. His clinical work includes regular contributions to a counseling center for parents and youth in Hamburg from 1971 to 2007. Schwab has been a trainer for the Society for Scientific Client-Centered Psychotherapy since 1976 and has worked as a psychological psychotherapist since 1999. His research interests and expertise encompass client-centered therapy, psychological effects of loneliness, and therapeutic relationships, and he has published numerous articles and papers in these areas, contributing significantly to the fields of clinical psychology and psychotherapy research.
