Biography

Reka Erzsebet Forrai is an Associate Professor in Medieval Studies at the University of Southern Denmark. She is a trained classicist historian whose research focuses on the social, political, and religious aspects of literary activity, particularly how translations create new texts and canons. Her main expertise lies in Greek and Latin translations from the Middle Ages, where she investigates the impact of the papacy and various institutional contexts on the translations during the 7th to 13th centuries. Forrai employs modern translation theories in her studies, including Andre Lefevere’s theory of translation rewriting and Mona Baker’s model of translation narratives in conflict management. In addition to her monograph on the papacy's role in knowledge transfer, Forrai actively engages in collaborative research projects and delivers guest lectures across Europe. Her teaching encompasses a range of subjects related to medieval literature and translation studies, particularly within the context of cultural history and reception of antiquity.
