Dr. Rema Padman

Biography

Rema Padman is a Trustee Professor of Management Science and Healthcare Informatics at Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College. Her research primarily focuses on the intersection of healthcare, information technology, and analytics, with an emphasis on healthcare decision support and operations. She leads the Healthcare Informatics Research iLab and serves as the Research Area Director for Operations Informatics at the Health Analytics Heinz College. Additionally, she holds an adjunct professorship in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Padman has received her B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and her PhD in Operations Research from the University of Texas at Austin. Her investigations delve into various aspects of healthcare informatics, employing data-driven decision support, process modeling, and risk analysis, applying models derived from optimization, machine learning, and behavioral science. Her work includes ongoing studies into digital therapeutic approaches aimed at improving health literacy and utilizing AI-driven mHealth interventions. She is a notable contributor to the field, having published extensively and served on editorial boards for leading academic journals. Padman's accolades include multiple research awards and recognition as a top woman in MedTech. She is also a Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association (FAMIA) and a recipient of the distinguished Bufalini Prize in the Health Technologies Sector from Italy.
