Biography

Remco Duits received his MSc degree (with honors) in Mathematics in 2001 from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), followed by a PhD (with honors) from the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He is a Full Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. Duits has organized and chaired international workshops at Eurandom, aimed at both mathematicians and mathematically inclined engineers, focusing on topics like probability theory, harmonic analysis, statistics, and imaging. He has coordinated significant conferences such as the NMC and the 4TU-AMI annual congress on Mathematics and Deep Learning. He serves on program committees for various international conferences related to scale space and variational methods (SSVM) and Geometric Science Information (GSI). As part of his role, he coordinates the Department's five-year Research Assessment and acts as an editor for the Journal of Mathematical Imaging and Vision (JMIV), having also led a special issue on Differential Geometry and Orientation Analysis in Image Processing. His research interests include differential geometry, geometric deep learning, Lie group theory, partial differential equations (PDEs), and mathematical medical image analysis. He has received prestigious grants, including the ERC-StG grant in 2014 and the VICI grant in 2021, and has acted as a supervisor and applicant for various EU projects.
