Biography

Remco van der Hofstad is a full professor and chair in probability at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His areas of expertise include probability theory and statistics. His research focuses on probability questions with applications in the area of complex networks, covering key topics such as percolation, models from statistical physics, random graphs, complex networks, and self-interacting random processes. There are also particular applications of probability in electrical engineering and theoretical physics. He obtained his PhD from the University of Utrecht in 1997 and has worked at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, and Delft University of Technology. At TU/e, he serves as the scientific director of EURANDOM, a Dutch centre dedicated to statistics, probability theory, and stochastic operations research. He is also the co-applicant for the Gravitation program on networks and has held significant roles within the Dutch Mathematics platform. Throughout his career, he has received various accolades including the Prix Henri Poincare in 2003 and the Rollo Davidson Prize in 2007, and has been a laureate in innovative research schemes.
