Biography

Dr. Renato D. C. Monteiro is the Coca-Cola Foundation Chair Professor at the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkeley in 1988. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, Dr. Monteiro was a faculty member in the Systems Industrial Engineering Department at the University of Arizona from 1990 to 1993. His research interests encompass continuous optimization and complexity algorithms, particularly in the theory and implementation of algorithms for solving large-scale optimization problems, including linear programming (LP), convex quadratic programming (CQP), semidefinite programming (SDP), and other related fields. Dr. Monteiro has been actively involved in research supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research, and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. He has served as an associate editor for various prestigious journals and chaired the INFORMS Optimization Section. His work has earned him multiple awards, including the INFORMS Computing Society Prize for Research Excellence and the 2023 INFORMS Khachiyan Prize for his lifetime contributions to the field of optimization.
