Biography

René Vidal is a global pioneer in data science and holds the title of Rachleff University Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. He has joint appointments in the Department of Radiology within the Perelman School of Medicine and the Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering at Penn Engineering. Vidal obtained his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering with highest honors from Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile in 1997, followed by M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley in 2000 and 2003, respectively. He served as a research fellow at National ICT Australia in 2003 before joining Johns Hopkins University in 2004 as a faculty member in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Center for Imaging Science. His research interests include Computer Vision, Perception, Dynamical Systems, Control, Machine Learning, and Autonomous Systems.
