Dr. Rens Bod

Biography

Rens Bod is a professor of Digital Humanities at the University of Amsterdam, where he also serves as the director of the Vossius Center for the History of Humanities and Sciences. His research focuses on the computational aspects of humanities, especially the historical perspectives of these disciplines. Bod has published extensively on topics including computational linguistics, natural language processing, and digital aesthetics. He is known for his work on the Data-Oriented Parsing model, which combines fragments of input to create rule-like behaviors applicable in various modalities such as language and music. His notable books include 'Grammar', 'Probabilistic Linguistics', and 'World Patterns: Global History Knowledge', which explore the historical and empirical patterns across multiple disciplines.
