Biography

Renslow Sherer, M.D. is a Professor in the Department of Medicine, specializing in Infectious Diseases at the University of Chicago. Since 1982, he has focused on providing care for individuals living with HIV. He established the HIV clinic at the Chicago Cook County Hospital in 1982 and co-founded the AIDS Foundation Chicago in 1985. Dr. Sherer is a prolific author, having published numerous works addressing the clinical and social impact of the HIV pandemic. His active research interests include prevention strategies, care models, and medical education programs in regions such as China and Africa. He served as the Director of the Wuhan Medical Education Reform Project in Wuhan, China from 2009 and is an Emeritus Faculty member at Wuhan University Medical School. Dr. Sherer has also directed annual courses on Health and Human Rights, and he has been a member of the HHS HIV/AIDS Treatment Guideline Panel from 1996 to 2010. Additionally, he has held the position of Clinical Director at the Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center beginning in 1989.
