Biography

Reto Gieré investigates Earth materials, geological forces, and the interaction between the environment and humans. He is engaged in research projects globally, dedicating his efforts to promoting health on our fragile planet through teaching and mentoring in research. He obtained his Ph.D. from ETH Zürich in Switzerland and has been a professor at Purdue University in the USA, as well as at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris and universities in Basel, Freiburg, and Siena. He has also served as a visiting researcher at the Australian Nuclear Science & Technology Organisation and Argonne National Laboratory. Gieré is the editor of the Journal of Petrology and the chief editor of the European Journal of Mineralogy. He is a fellow of the Mineralogical Society of America and the Geological Society of London, and an honorary member of the Mineralogical Society of Slovakia. His contributions to education include teaching several courses in Earth sciences and environmental studies.
