Biography

In 1999, Reyer Gerlagh received his Ph.D. and later won a five-year scholarship from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). He has held a chair in Environmental Economics at the University of Manchester from 2006 to 2009. In 2009, he became a Professor of Economics at Tilburg University. From 2011 to 2014, he served as the Coordinating Lead Author for the fifth assessment report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and was the joint Head of the Economics Department from 2015 to 2019. Since September 2021, he has been the Vice Dean for Research at the Tilburg School of Economics and Management. His research primarily focuses on economic aspects of climate policies and green innovation, particularly examining the energy transition and the necessity of fossil-free policies. He has published extensively in economic journals and is recognized for his expertise in sustainability, taxes, and macroeconomics.
