Biography

Reza Rizvi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Lassonde School of Engineering, York University, where he joined on July 1st, 2019. Prior to this, he served as an Associate Professor at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio, USA. His research interests focus on scalable manufacturing, advanced materials, adaptive polymers, graphene, 2D layered nanomaterials, integration of nano-enabled systems, and addressing multidisciplinary engineering challenges. Reza earned his PhD in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto, where he also completed his BASc in Materials Science and Engineering. He has previously held prestigious positions such as the NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Chemistry Department at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Canadian National Center of Excellence TVN postdoctoral fellowship at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. His work includes developing materials for non-slip winter footwear, flexible pressure sensing nanocomposites, and fully bio-based green composites for the automotive industry, alongside consulting on environmental testing for automotive rubbers and plastics. Reza has successfully secured significant funding from the National Science Foundation (US), NASA, NSERC, and Magna, and has been invited to speak at international conferences. His research has been published in reputable journals such as Advanced Materials and ACS AIP Publications, and he has filed four patents.
