Dr. Reza Taher Kermani

Biography

Reza Taher-Kermani is an Assistant Professor at Concordia University, specializing in nineteenth-century English literature, classical Persian poetry, comparative literature, colonial and postcolonial studies, translation studies, and Sufism. His research focuses on the Anglo-Iranian literary exchanges, particularly the medieval Persian poetry that influenced British writers in the nineteenth century. He authored the book 'Persian Presence in Victorian Poetry,' which provides a comprehensive analysis of the historical and intellectual entanglements that shaped British engagements with Persian literary traditions. Currently, he is completing a critical edition of Edward FitzGerald’s 'Bird-Parliament,' a translation of Attar’s 'Mantiq ul-Teyr,' and is working on a manuscript that examines the global circulation of the 'Rubáiyát' during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, exploring its impact on Oriental scholarship and literary culture. Additionally, he has written numerous articles published in academic journals such as 'Essays in Criticism,' 'Translation Literature,' and 'Victorian Literature and Culture.'
