Dr. Rhonda Breitkreuz

Biography

Rhonda Breitkreuz is a Professor in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Alberta, specializing in Human Ecology. With a richly diverse background that includes experiences as a Support Worker and Probation Officer, she has dedicated her academic career to studying social policy, maternal employment, and women's economic empowerment. Dr. Breitkreuz's research primarily investigates the intersections of gender, family policy, and social equality, focusing on how policies affect well-being. Her international work includes examining the impacts of social policy on marginalized citizens in developing countries. Currently, she leads various funded research projects, including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council's initiative on economic empowerment among women across seven countries. Recipient of multiple awards honoring her contributions to education and research, she has supervised numerous graduate students and provided exceptional mentorship in her field. Furthermore, her published works appear in leading inter-disciplinary journals, highlighting her commitment to advancing knowledge on critical social issues.
