Biography

Rian Bobbink conducts comparative legal historical research in the field of private law, focusing on secured transactions and insolvency. He teaches Roman private law and has taken part in several academic activities, including a visiting academic role in the Commercial Law Department at the University of Cape Town in 2018. He completed the Grotius postgraduate specialist course on secured transactions in 2019 and served as a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and Comparative Private Law in Hamburg in the same year. Bobbink defended his PhD thesis on antichresis in 2021 and has been an Assistant Professor at the Business & Law Research Centre. He also held the position of an academic adviser at a bank one day a week from 2021 until January 2024. In 2023, he was a visiting researcher at the law school of Western University of Ontario. His publications and projects between 2016 and 2021 include significant work on antichresis, examining the secured creditor's entitlement from a legal historical comparative perspective.
