Biography

Ricardo Mantilla joined the faculty of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Manitoba as an Associate Professor in July 2021 after moving from the University of Iowa where he served as an Assistant Professor. He obtained his PhD degree in Civil Engineering specializing in Hydrology from the University of Colorado in 2007. His Master's and Bachelor's degrees were in Civil Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Colombia. His research focuses on self-similarity in river network topology, hydraulic geometric variables, and the dynamics of flood magnitudes, durations, and frequencies over time and space. This work contributed to developing a statewide flood forecasting system in Iowa, which employs distributed models to solve equations for water movement using High-Performance Computing resources.
