Biography

Ricardo Martínez-Botas holds an MEng (Hons) in Aeronautical Engineering from Imperial College London and obtained a DPhil at the Rolls Royce University Technology Center at the University of Oxford in 1993, with a thesis on Annular Cascade Aerodynamics Heat Transfer. He has developed expertise in unsteady flow aerodynamics for small turbines, particularly in the turbocharger industry. His contributions are recognized in the area of unsteady fluid mechanics and instrumentation development through computational methods. His work has garnered support from government agencies and the industry, leading his group to be recognized as a center for turbocharger turbine aerodynamics, especially for experimental methods and dimensional calculation procedures. In 2009, he received the ASME Turbomachinery Committee Paper Award and in 2011, the Dugald Clerk Prize from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (UK) for his contributions to internal combustion engines. He has served as a Visiting Professor at the University Teknologi Malaysia and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Currently, he is the Theme Leader for Hybrid Electric Vehicles at the Energy Futures Lab at Imperial College and serves as the head of the Thermofluids Division within the Faculty of Engineering.
