Biography

Richard Arias-Hernández is an Associate Professor and Academic Director at Vantage College, cross-appointed in the School of Information at the University of British Columbia. He teaches courses related to digital text and image collections, information visualization, and graduate programs in the iSchool, including the Bachelor of Media Studies. Richard holds a Ph.D. in Science and Technology Studies from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an M.Sc. in Information Management Systems, and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Universidad de Los Andes in Colombia. His research interests center on curriculum design, archival studies, and the incorporation of artificial intelligence and machine learning into archival records management practices. He is actively engaged in the design and evaluation of community-engaged learning within information studies graduate programs and interdisciplinary undergraduate programs related to media informatics. Richard has also conducted postdoctoral research in visual analytics and interactive science at Simon Fraser University's School of Interactive Arts and Technology.
