Biography

Richard Bartfai is an internationally recognized expert in gene regulatory mechanisms with a particular focus on the epigenetic regulation of malaria parasites and their vertebrate hosts. He develops and integrates transcriptomic, proteomic, epigenomic, and bioinformatic methods to explore the gene regulatory mechanisms that govern parasite development and interactions with the host. His insights into the molecular processes essential for the development and survival of the parasite in the human host prove invaluable in the fight against this deadly disease. His expertise includes single-cell RNA sequencing, ChIP sequencing, Cut&Tag, ATAC sequencing, MNase sequencing, quantitative interaction proteomics, data integration, and work with Plasmodium blood and liver-stage gametocyte cultures, as well as primary hepatocyte hepatic organoid models.
