Biography

After eleven years as an undergraduate, PhD student and postdoctoral researcher at Oxford, Richard Bradbury joined the RSPB’s science team, where he became the Head of Environmental Research in 2007 and Head of People Conservation Science in 2019. In 2015, he became an Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Zoology at the University of Cambridge. Richard leads a small team of researchers at the RSPB Centre for Conservation Science, focusing on ornithological and ecological research with an aim to expand RSPB's limited research on the human dimensions of conservation. His core objective is to understand and promote pro-environmental behavioral change, enhancing the understanding of nature's contributions to people and addressing people's perceptions and attitudes towards nature. He collaborates with a wide interdisciplinary network of researchers, conservation practitioners, and policy advisors, employing a range of scientific methods to tackle pressing conservation issues. Richard has extensive experience in building and leading teams and mentoring staff as well as training PhD and Masters students.
